- Our Work in Action
From the rural villages of Abiriba, Nigeria to the classrooms and church halls of North Carolina, Nkiruka Wellness has been showing up for communities that are too often overlooked.
Here’s a look at what we’ve done – and what’s coming next.
PAST PROJECTS
Reproductive Health & Menstrual Equity Program - Abiriba, Nigeria (2021-Present)
Since 2021, Nkiruka Wellness has implemented 4 reproductive health and menstrual equity programs in rural Abiriba, Abia State, Nigeria – a region with limited health infrastructure and high rates of period poverty.
Our interventions focused on two interlinked goals: health literacy and product access.
- Educational sessions covering anatomy, consent, menstrual hygiene, and reproductive wellness
- Distribution of sustainable menstrual products including menstrual cups and reusable pads
- Creation of a free reproductive health supply closet at the Udojiaku Maternity Ward
To date, these programs have directly reached over 250 women and girls, providing them with knowledge, resources, and a safe space to ask questions about their bodies.
Youth Tobacco Prevention & Health Education - North Carolina, U.S.A.
In partnership with charter schools, churches, and cultural organizations across North Carolina, Nkiruka Wellness has delivered targeted health education to students and families. Programs have included:
- Youth tobacco prevention and cessation education
- Comprehensive sexual health education
- General health and wellness topics tailored to youth and family audiences
These programs have been delivered in partnership with the North Carolina Communal Improvement Union and local congregations, ensuring that every session is grounded in cultural familiarity and community trust.
